Important steps in Acne care

Acne is a skin condition resulting in the lesions because of excessive secretion of sebum which can be a result of many extrinsic and intrinsic insults. Acne Vulagaris is perhaps the most common type of acne and is dominant in the teenage years of life. The patient who develops acne is usually very fatigued and low on self esteem because of the prominent lesions which are usually on the face and thus taking care of Acne is a multi factorial task.

The most important part of treatment of acne before initiating medications is to compeltely re assures the patient and answer all their queries. The areas of reassurance should be directed along the lines making clear to the patient that this is not a permanent condition and shall subside with time given the proper treatment as well as care. The lesions are non infectious and are not a harm to their social life and they should not question their appearance or attitude because of the condition.

The most important step in management of a patient with Acne is to advice the patient to maintain optimum health standards with cleanliness of skin being kept prime at all times. They should monitor their exposure to cold inducing agents as well as other chemical and environmental stress factors of the skin as well as restrict their diet to substances that have decrease properties of antioxidants and other harmful agents related to skin such as saturated oils etc.

Another important factor to consider is adequate counseling of these patients from time to time as well as reassurance that this will go away and even while the lesions persist they should not restrict their social life as well as work.
